Drawn Together: Cartooning for Beginners

Pick up a pencil and discover the joy of cartooning in this relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop. You’ll learn the basics of creating characters, telling stories through images, and building simple comics — no drawing experience required.

Inspired by the rich history of queer comics, this workshop is a playful space for trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people to experiment, connect and bring their ideas to life. Whether you’ve never held a pen with intent or just want to reconnect with your inner doodler, this session offers a warm, inclusive atmosphere to create without judgment.

Expect gentle guidance, laughs, and plenty of creative prompts. You’ll leave with sketches, confidence, and maybe even the beginnings of a mini comic. All materials are provided — just bring yourself and an open mind.

Facilitated by Trans Social Arts Group Meanjin — a creative collective that builds community through art, storytelling and shared experiences. This workshop is designed for adults who want to explore self-expression through comics, with an emphasis on celebrating identity and joy.
