Love is Love

Join the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of joyful, bold, and deeply expressive music that celebrates queer voices across the classical canon. This program is an ode to love in all its forms — tender, dramatic, and gloriously vibrant.

Opening with Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, you’ll be swept into a dazzling showcase of orchestral color, paying homage to Baroque master Henry Purcell. The program then shifts into passionate storytelling with contrasting takes on Romeo and Juliet — Tchaikovsky’s lush romanticism meets Bernstein’s sharp, jazzy modernism — both capturing the ache and ecstasy of ill-fated love.

The evening’s highlight is the world premiere of Pulse by Brisbane-based composer Joe Twist — a piece that pulses with rhythmic energy and emotional depth, marking a new moment for LGBTQIA+ representation in orchestral repertoire.

This concert is a love letter to community, to history, and to the power of music to express what words alone cannot. Whether you’re familiar with classical music or hearing it for the first time, come with an open heart — you’ll leave feeling moved, inspired, and a little more connected to the rhythm of love.
