35 Years of Women's Circus

Get ready to celebrate three and a half decades of bold, queer, intersectional feminist glory with Women’s Circus! From 2 December 2026 to 11 January 2027, the Pride Gallery will transform into a living archive of acrobatics, activism, and awe-inspiring resilience. Expect vintage photos, handwritten journals, dazzling costumes, and electrifying video clips that prove circus isn’t just about flips — it’s about flipping the script on gender norms.
Founded in 1991 as a haven for women survivors, this powerhouse collective quickly became a beacon for queer and trans folks seeking belonging, body autonomy, and big-top magic. With a storied history of empowering marginalised genders — including their legendary Performing Older Women’s Circus (POW) — their legacy reads like a love letter to radical joy and community healing. Some original members are still swinging from silks in their 70s — and yes, they’re still absolutely killing it.
This isn’t just nostalgia — it’s a call to arms wrapped in glitter and aerial straps. Women’s Circus has spent 35 years smashing ceilings, smashing stereotypes, and smashing patriarchy (preferably while juggling or doing handstands). Whether you’re new to their world or a longtime fan, this exhibition is your front-row ticket to the vibrant, feminist, queer circus revolution that’s been rewriting the rules — one trapeze at a time.
Don’t miss your chance to witness 35 years of fearless artistry, community, and unapologetic joy. Grab your friends, your chosen family, and your sense of wonder — it’s time to celebrate the radical legacy of Women’s Circus.
