Body Language
Get ready to experience Body Language — a groundbreaking portraiture project by Vicki Jones that dives deep into the vibrant, evolving expressions of gender beyond the binary. This isn’t just photography — it’s collaboration, conversation, and creative rebellion. Each portrait is co-created with LGBTIQA+ participants from Australia and The Pacific, inviting you to rethink gender as a personal, fluid, and artistic journey — not a checkbox.
Shot across safe, intimate spaces using both digital and analogue techniques, this exhibition blurs the lines between documentation and art. You’re not just viewing photos — you’re stepping into stories, emotions, and lived realities, told on the subjects’ own terms.
Vicki Jones (she/her), a Melbourne-based photographer with 30 years of freelance mastery, brings her community-focused lens to this project. From capturing the haunting beauty of The Regent Theatre before its revival, to spotlighting artists, activists, and politicians, her work is deeply rooted in representation. As a current Master of Arts (Photography) student at Photography Studies College, she’s exploring how lens-based art can challenge societal norms and create space for queer, non-binary, and trans voices to shine.
Her accolades? Portrait Finalist at Head On 2024, shortlisted for the Australian Photography Awards 2020, and her work resides in the State Library of Victoria, the City of Melbourne’s collection, and private archives. She also runs Big Eye Studios in North Fitzroy — a creative haven supporting female, non-binary, and queer artists.
Don’t miss this immersive, emotionally rich exhibition — where every gaze, pose, and statement challenges what you think you know. Let your body speak. Let your identity be seen.
