Australian Premiere: Dreamers

Step into the powerful world of 'Dreamers', a groundbreaking film directed by Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor that delves deep into the intersections of immigration, queerness, and love. This compelling narrative follows Isio (portrayed by Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo), a Nigerian-born woman who finds herself navigating life as an undocumented resident in the UK for two years before being sent to the Hatchworth Removal Centre.

Against the stark backdrop of institutional confinement, Isio's journey takes an unexpected turn when she meets the charismatic Farah. What blossoms between them is a tender and poetic love story that beautifully captures the nuanced experiences of Black queer love. Their connection develops despite the challenging circumstances, creating a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

Inspired by director Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor's personal experiences with the UK asylum process, this film offers an intimate and authentic perspective on a rarely-told story. As a 2020 Screen International Star of Tomorrow, Gharoro-Akpojotor brings a fresh and vital voice to queer cinema.
