Employment Workshop 1: The Job Search Journey
This workshop is the first in a three-part series designed specifically for transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary folks aged 18 and over who are looking to build confidence, skills, and resilience in their job search journey.
Whether you’re actively job hunting or just preparing for the future, this workshop will help you understand how to approach the job market with intention. We’ll walk you through different job search methods, how to tailor your resume and cover letter to beat the bots, and how to target your application to your desired industry — all in a supportive, small-group setting.
Santiago Ruiz (he/they), our facilitator, brings a unique dual perspective — having both hired for large companies and supported LGBTQIA+ jobseekers in inclusive employment services. He knows the system inside and out — and he’s here to help you navigate it, not just survive it.
After registering, you’ll receive a short pre-workshop questionnaire to help customise the session to your goals. Once you attend, you’ll also get one hour of dedicated, one-on-one follow-up — in person or online, your choice — to dig deeper into your unique job-seeking needs.
Who is this for?
- Trans, gender diverse, and non-binary adults age 18+
- People currently looking for work or wanting to build skills to secure employment
About the Host
Affirmation Station, run by Transgender Victoria (TGV), is Australia’s first trans-led community and peer support hub. This space offers affirming services, connection, and resources — all under one roof. The venue is wheelchair accessible and intentionally designed to be a safe, welcoming environment for the community.
As Santi says:
“We know barriers to employment for trans people are very real. I’m not here to pretend there are no hurdles — I’m here to say let’s jump them together. With your resilience and the support we get from our community, we will break down these hurdles by becoming the people who work, manage, and hire.”
For accessibility questions, or to find out if this session is right for you, please reach out to programs@tgv.org.au before booking. Group size is limited to 6–10 participants to ensure everyone gets meaningful support.
