Employment Workshop 2: Preparing for the Interview

This session is the second in a three-part series designed to support transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary individuals aged 18+ as they build confidence and skills for the job search journey. Whether you’re just starting out or ready to level up, this workshop offers a safe and affirming space to explore the interview process with compassion and practical tools.

Facilitated by Santiago Ruiz (he/they), a trans man and workplace inclusion specialist, this workshop blends real-world hiring insights with empathetic support. Santiago brings a decade of experience in corporate hiring and three years helping LGBTQIA+ jobseekers overcome barriers to employment — giving you a 360-degree view of what employers look for, and how to present your best self authentically.

In this session, you’ll:

• Unpack the nerves and fears that come with interviews — and learn ways to manage them
• Understand what employers are really looking for during the hiring process
• Practice practical interview strategies using the STAR Method (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
• Discuss navigating disclosure as a gender diverse person — on your own terms

Workshop Format: Open discussion-style, small group setting (6–10 participants) to encourage questions, sharing, and peer connection. Affirmation Station is a wheelchair accessible venue located at 279 Lygon St, Brunswick East.
