Employment Workshop 3: Staying in the Job

This workshop is the third and final session in our inclusive series designed for transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary adults aged 18+. Whether you’re actively job searching or building confidence for the workplace, this session will give you tools to thrive once you land the role — not just survive it.

Many people find getting a job easier than staying in one, especially if you’re returning after time away or navigating a new workplace without prior experience. This session tackles the real, often uncomfortable challenges — lack of trans awareness, misgendering, bathroom access, and microaggressions — and gives you strategies to navigate them, even when the burden shouldn’t be yours. Because yes, some things are unfair — but we’ll help you stay grounded, assertive, and focused on your goals.

We’ll also discuss when it’s okay to walk away — not every job is meant for you, and every opportunity is a step toward the right one. Your resilience paired with community support can break down barriers you shouldn’t have to face alone.

Who this workshop is for:

  • Transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary people aged 18+
  • Those currently looking for paid work or wanting to build confidence to find and keep employment

Meet the facilitator:

Santiago Ruiz (he/they) is a trans man and workplace inclusion specialist with over a decade in corporate finance and three years working directly with LGBTQIA+ jobseekers. He’s now Operations Manager at LF Facility Group, a heart-led inclusive facilities company creating job opportunities for LGBTQIA+ people and allies facing barriers to employment.

As Santi puts it: “We know barriers to employment for Trans people is very real. I'm not here to pretend there are no hurdles — I'm here to say let's jump them together. With your resilience and the support we get from our community, we will break down these hurdles by becoming the people who work, manage, and hire.”
