Foundations of DJing — from rekordbox basics to selecting your tracks and crafting a set narrative.
Hardware walkthrough — get to know Pioneer decks and their functions.
Pro tips for navigating DJing as a career — no fluff, just real talk.
A slideshow will guide the first half (available to request afterward), but bring pen and paper — there are nuggets of wisdom you’ll want to jot down.
After a short break, we’ll split into two groups — one led by Marli, one by Girl Whatever — tailored to your experience level. Whether you’re just starting or brushing up, you’ll get guidance and practice behind the decks. Both facilitators have USBs loaded with genre-spanning sets, but feel free to bring your own MP3s (320kbps recommended).
Headphones will be provided — though you’re welcome to bring your own. And yes, bbsanii will be on site to share their DJing and production wisdom too.
Who’s making this happen?
DJ FRESHXPRINCESS — Melbourne-based powerhouse selector known for genre-blending mixes that span R&B, house, and afrobeats. The people’s favourite princess keeps the energy high and the crowds moving.
Girl Whatever — Naarm-based multidisciplinary artist and DJ who weaves classical and contemporary sounds into sonic portals. Her sets blend house, bass, garage, and percussion — and she’s played stages from Berlin to Brisbane.
bbsanii — joining us to share their wealth of knowledge and experience (find them on Instagram).
Why this matters:
Marli and Girl Whatever know firsthand how isolating some music spaces can be. They’re opening the door — and holding it wide — for BIPOC, trans, and non-binary folks to learn, grow, and build community. Allies are welcome — just stay mindful of who this space is designed to uplift.
