Pride Short Film Fest 2026: Queer Stories, Up Close

After a wildly successful debut, the Pride Short Film Fest returns to Footscray for a celebration of homegrown queer cinema. Expect raw, intimate storytelling from local directors, writers, and performers who bring their visions to life on the small screen — then stay for live Q&As where you’ll hear the behind-the-scenes magic, creative frustrations, and joyful mishaps that made each story come alive.

This year’s screenings are hosted by the effortlessly charismatic Lazy Susan — yes, the Drag Race Down Under Season 4 winner, but also a bona fide filmmaker who’s walked the red carpet at Cannes. With her at the helm, expect a night that’s warm, thoughtful, and quietly electric.

What’s On

  • Night 1 – Tuesday 1 September: Romantics & Comedies — heartwarming, cheeky, and gently silly stories that celebrate love in all its forms.
  • Night 2 – Tuesday 8 September: Dramas & Docos — deeper dives into personal journeys, community, and the emotional textures of queer life.

All films are introduced by the creators themselves — a rare chance to meet the people behind the lens. Whether you're a cinephile, a casual watcher, or just curious, this festival is designed for everyone who believes in the power of a good story — especially when it’s told with heart.

Grab a seat, ask a question, and celebrate the storytellers who are shaping the next chapter of Australian queer cinema.
