Queer Volleyball #5 for HUSK

We’re rolling out the sand (well, indoor court) for our fifth queer volleyball tournament, raising funds for HUSK — Housing & Support, a grassroots collective created by and for women and gender-diverse people experiencing homelessness or domestic violence.

Whether you’re a pro, a beginner, or just here to cheer from the sidelines, you’re welcome. No skills? No problem. We’ll start with a half-hour practice session to get you comfy before the games kick off at 7pm. Teams of 5–6 are randomly assigned — think fun, not fierce competition.

Games last 10 minutes each, with breaks between sets. There’ll be snacks and drinks available for purchase (note: profits from drinks go to the venue, not HUSK). You can pop out whenever you like — just tap the bar crew before you head off. No pressure to stay the whole time.

Volunteers wanted! Want free entry? Volunteer to be a referee — zero experience required, just show up ready to blow a whistle and high-five folks.

We’re proud to keep this event accessible. Sliding scale tickets available, with discounted entry for People of Colour and free entry for Mob (First Nations folks) who might not have the means to contribute extra right now. This is about fun, community, and supporting one another — regardless of your wallet.

Who’s HUSK?
Since 2017, HUSK has provided safe, supportive housing for hundreds of folks impacted by patriarchy — especially those facing homelessness, state violence, mental health challenges, disability, or who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Accessibility Note:
The venue is not wheelchair accessible — narrow hallways and small bathrooms. But we’ve got wide, slidey doors at the entrance, plus outdoor space if you need a quiet break from the noise. Music and whistles will be in full swing, so if you’re sensitive to sound, let us know if you’d like to tour the space ahead of time (we’re hosting games Tuesday nights — pop by to say hi).

COVID Safety:
Masks encouraged while moving around or in bathrooms. RATs encouraged before you arrive. Masks will be available on site. Please let us know within a week if you test positive after the event — we’ll help notify attendees. We’ll have HEPA filters running and doors open for airflow.

Transport:
Parking’s available on-street. You can hop a tram along Sydney Road or bus up Victoria Street. Carpooling with your crew? Even better.

We acknowledge that we live, work, and operate on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation. We pay our deepest respects to Elders both past, present and emerging.
