Spotswood to Williamstown Beach Walk
Join us for a scenic and relaxed 12.2 km point-to-point walk along the Bay Trail West, starting in Spotswood and ending at the beautiful Williamstown Beach. This Grade 2 Moderate walk is perfect for anyone who enjoys gentle exercise with lovely coastal views, riverbanks, and charming local spots.
We begin our journey near Spotswood Station, following Hall Street to the Westgate Bridge, then onto the Stoney Creek Walk which leads us along the Yarra River to its mouth — stunning views guaranteed from Greenwich Reserve. After soaking in the scenery, we’ll arrive in Williamstown for a leisurely lunch stop, then meander to Point Gellibrand before reaching the beach for a refreshing swim or just a quiet moment by the water with a drink.
Afterwards, it’s a short hop to the Williamstown station for the train ride home — convenient and economical with weekend myki caps at just $4.00, or free for Seniors.
This walk is designed for everyone — bring comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and don’t forget your water (1–2 litres), snacks, and swimwear if you’re feeling splashy! If you’d like to grab breakfast before we start, head to Hudsons Rd in Spotswood — several cafes are open early.
Lunch options include enjoying a meal at the Customs House Hotel, Williamstown (See Menu), or bringing your own picnic to enjoy in Commonwealth Reserve across from the hotel. Remember to select “Pub Lunch” or “BYO Lunch” when you book.
