Zine Workshop #3: Get Your Craft On

Ever wanted to make your own tiny magazine? A zine—short for 'magazine'—is a small, self-published booklet that’s equal parts art project and personal declaration. Think cut-and-paste collage, hand-drawn doodles, and confessional poetry on stapled paper. Zines have long been a beloved medium in queer and counter-culture spaces, offering a no-rules arena for expression.

At Affirmation Station, you’ll find prompts to get your creativity flowing and materials to help you dive in—from markers and scissors to stickers and glue. No prior experience needed—just bring your curiosity and a sense of play. The vibe is warm, inclusive, and gently structured; you’ll be guided through the zine-making process by El Spark, who’s currently completing their Masters in Art Therapy at La Trobe University.

El Spark (they/them) is all about creating accessible art spaces rooted in community care and mutual aid. They’ve structured this session to be welcoming and intuitive—perfect for first-timers or those returning to the zine scene.

This is the third in a four-part series. While we encourage folks to attend all four to deepen their creative practice, you’re welcome to drop in for any single session that fits your schedule.

Who’s It For?

• Transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary folks
• Neurodivergent, POC, and all abilities welcomed
• Must be 18+ to attend

Please note: This workshop is part of El’s final Masters project. Participants are invited to complete a short questionnaire and allow their artwork to be photographed—but consent is entirely optional and can be withdrawn anytime.
