Zine Workshop #4
Grab your scissors, glue sticks, and creative spirit — it’s time to make your own zine. Short for ‘magazine,’ zines are intimate, self-published booklets that have long been a cornerstone of queer and counter-culture movements. This isn’t just crafts and coffee — it’s storytelling with intention, art with attitude, and community with care.
Guided by facilitator El Spark (they/them), a Masters of Art Therapy student at La Trobe University, you’ll be gently nudged into creativity with curated prompts and a table overflowing with materials. Whether you’re sketching, collaging, or scribbling poetry, you’ll be surrounded by a warm, inclusive space designed for everyone — especially trans, gender diverse, and non-binary folks. Neurodivergent, POC, and all-abilities welcome. You must be 18+ to attend.
El’s approach is rooted in community care and mutual aid: "This isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence — showing up for yourself and others, through art that’s uniquely yours."
This is the final session in a four-part series. While we encourage attending all four to build continuity, you’re welcome to drop in for just this one. If $1 feels like too much, send an email to programs@tgv.org.au — no judgment, just access.
As part of El’s research project, participants will be invited to complete a short questionnaire and allow their artwork to be photographed. You can opt out at any time — your comfort and consent come first.
