August Cause Club — Crafting Courage in Purple
Grab your scissors, glue sticks, and a magazine (or two!), because August’s Cause Club is rolling into Surry Hills with a whole lot of heart — and a whole lot of purple. This isn’t just another afternoon activity; it’s a bold, creative gathering that turns zine-making into a love letter to LGBTQIA+ youth.
This month’s theme? Colours of Courage. Sponsored by Minus18 and hosted by ALLKND, the event invites you to wear your purple pride — whether it’s a headband, socks, or bold eyeshadow — and contribute to a national digital zine that will amplify young queer voices across Australia. Think of it as a collective scrapbook of solidarity, designed to remind every LGBTQIA+ young person: you’re seen, you’re valued, you’re never alone.
Bring along old magazines to cut, paste, and transform — and feel free to throw in photos of your queer icons for extra sparkle. While you’re making, you’ll learn about Minus18’s mission to tackle social isolation through safe spaces and leadership programs for LGBTQIA+ youth. (Spoiler: 2 in 3 still face abuse for being themselves — which is exactly why this matters.)
The vibe? Warm, welcoming, and wonderfully creative. No pressure to be a professional artist — just show up, make something, and connect. The event kicks off at 2:30pm sharp (well, 6:30pm Sydney time — yes, we’re counting on your punctuality!).
Accessibility? Sorted. The venue has a clear path and an accessible toilet. Just bring your creativity — and a little purple, if you can.
Photography may be used for promotional material — by attending, you’re giving your okay to be part of this collective story. RSVPs help keep everyone in the loop, but you can mute updates anytime. Oh, and if you’ve got 16+ years under your belt? You’re all set.
