Blue Mountains Day Trip: Walking Tour of Leura Gardens Festival, then Katoomba Scenery
Join SQS Sydney Queer Social for a full-day walking adventure through the stunning Blue Mountains — perfect for lovers of nature, gardens, and scenic vistas. Created and hosted by Peter, this curated day starts in the heart of Sydney and takes you through lush gardens, charming village stops, and ends with one of Australia’s most iconic views.
We’ll kick off at CJ’s Central Station coffee shop in Haymarket — grab a warm drink and breakfast-to-go before heading to the train. Once in Leura, we’ll embark on a 6.5km walking tour across five enchanting private gardens open for the Leura Gardens Festival. Expect blooming flowers, peaceful pathways, and hidden corners you’d never find on your own.
After a satisfying lunch break in Leura Mall, we’ll continue onto Westholme, Fjell Heim, and Ewanrigg — all offering unique garden styles and photo-worthy moments. Then, it’s bus ride to Katoomba to soak in panoramic views of the Jamison Valley and the majestic Three Sisters rock formation. You’ll have time to relax, snap some shots, and maybe grab a bite before heading home.

- 7:24 am — Train to Lithgow
- 9:21 am — Arrive Leura, short walk to The Braes
- 10:25 am — Walk to Honeysett, explore for 45 minutes
- 11:35 am — Lunch at Leura Mall (60 mins)
- 1:00 pm — Walk to Westholme, explore for 35 mins
- 2:05 pm — Walk to Fjell Heim, explore for 35 mins
- 2:55 pm — Walk to Ewanrigg, explore for 35 mins
- 3:35 pm — Catch bus 695 to Katoomba
- 4:05 pm — Arrive at Echo Point, scenic lookout with views of Three Sisters (60 mins)
- 5:12 pm — Bus 696G to Katoomba Station
- 5:22 pm — Train back to Sydney — arrive Strathfield 7:04 pm, Central 7:18 pm
What to Bring
- Opal card or tap card for transport
- Comfortable walking shoes (we’ll be on our feet a lot!)
- Backpack for snacks, water, and extras
- Sun hat, sunscreen, and a light jacket
- Camera or phone for capturing memories
- Charger or power bank — no outlets on the trail!
