Join us for a warm, welcoming morning of connection at World Square Bar — a lively spot in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Whether you’re new to town, fluent in Japanese, or just curious about different cultures, this is your friendly space to mingle, chat, and maybe even practice your language skills with folks from all over the globe.

Bring your ID or passport — yes, really! We ask for this to keep the vibe safe and respectful for everyone. No photo copies, please — we need the real deal. The venue’s on Basement Level 1, just down the stairs next to the entrance.

Entry is a simple sliding scale to encourage participation:

• $4 — Follow both Instagram accounts @community_sydney_japanese and @australiastudy.japan and click “Attending” on Meetup
• $5 — You’re following the accounts but haven’t marked “Attending”
• $6 — Not following and not marked as attending

This isn’t a party, a club, or a show — it’s a social gathering designed to foster genuine connections. No sales pitches, no pickup games, no pushy behaviour. If you’re making others uncomfortable, you’ll be politely asked to leave — no warnings, no exceptions.

When you arrive, do grab a drink from the bar — outside food and drinks aren’t allowed, so enjoy what’s on offer. And don’t worry — we might snap a few photos for social media, so feel free to duck out of frame if you’d rather not be in them.

For participants aged 33 and over: we gently ask for a small $2 donation. This helps keep things affordable for younger folks — especially those on working holiday and student visas — who often form the core of our community. Your kindness helps sustain this warm, inclusive space.
