Sydney Sapphics Book Club: Her Body and Other Parties

Grab a drink, settle into the cozy vibes of The Grifter Brewing Co., and join our next chapter of sapphic literary exploration. This month, we’re turning the pages of Carmen Maria Machado’s acclaimed collection, Her Body and Other Parties — a genre-bending blend of speculative fiction, horror, and intimate storytelling that speaks to the complexity of womanhood, desire, and identity.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Machado’s work or new to her hauntingly lyrical prose, you’re welcome to join the conversation. Bring your thoughts, your highlights, and maybe even your favorite quote — no pressure to have read the whole thing, just come ready to chat.

We’ll kick things off with a complimentary drink on arrival (yes, please!), and there’ll be plenty of food and extra beverages available all night. It’s a warm, welcoming space for all queer femmes, lesbians, and sapphic folks — come as you are, with or without chapter notes.

Quick notes:

• Tickets include one welcome drink — additional refreshments available for purchase.
• We’ll be taking photos and short videos for social media — if you’d rather not be in them, just give us a heads-up when you arrive.
• Don’t forget your book (or e-reader or audiobook!) — we’ll be diving into the themes, the characters, and yes — the very real emotional gut-punches that make Machado’s writing unforgettable.

Whether you’re here for the stories, the solidarity, or just the chance to unwind and connect with fellow bookish queers — you’ve found your tribe. Let’s make this night unforgettable, one page at a time.
