Woof in the Woods: Winter
Get ready to swap your city shoes for hiking boots, because Harbour City Bears is taking over Barrington River Lodge for a frosty weekend of furry fun! From Thursday 13 August to Sunday 16 August, we’re trading skyscrapers for starlit skies and concrete for campfires. Whether you’re pitching a tent, booking a private cabin, or just ready to cozy up with fellow bears by the fire, this winter campout is your escape from the urban chill.

What’s On
Thursday night kicks off with a BBQ feast and a classic camp movie under the stars — snuggle up with your favorite bear, grab a drink, and let the cinematic magic (and maybe a little popcorn) melt away the week’s stresses.
Friday? Pizza night! The lodge’s new pizza oven is ready to turn your toppings fantasies into delicious reality. Top ’em, bake ’em, then dance away to bear beats on the outdoor dancefloor — complete with games, a play area, and plenty of bear hugs.
Saturday’s your night to make your own magic — whether that’s whipping up dinner in the shared kitchen, hitting up a local pub, or just kicking back with a drink around the campfire. Stargaze, play board games, or find out what exactly bears get up to after dark in the woods… hint: it’s probably a lot of laughing and maybe a little bit of mischief.
Accommodation Options
The Retreat: For those who want to live large (and alone), The Retreat is your private cabin escape. Think queen bed, full kitchen, lounge room, and your own BBQ verandah. Luxury meets wilderness.
Family Cabin: Two bedrooms, one awesome vibe. Book the master with a queen bed, or go for the bunk-and-trundle second bedroom — perfect for groups or partners who like a little extra space.
The Lodge: This is where the communal magic happens. Rooms range from private doubles to bunk-laden dens — all with access to the lounge, kitchen, and firepit. Just remember: bring your own sleeping bag!
Camping: For the true outdoor adventurer. Pitch your tent, park your RV, or roll out your swag — the site’s got space, just not as much as previous camps, so stay close to the pack for max bear cuddles.
What to Pack
- If you’re camping: Tent or shelter, warm sleeping bag and pillow, extension cords and plug board, towels, toiletries, snacks, drinks, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, thongs — and yes, cozy layers. It gets chilly!

The site is mostly flat, with a gentle slope toward the river. Movie night will have English subtitles (dialog only). CPAP users: power points are available — just bring a long extension cord to reach from the main building to your room or campsite.
